What is the difference between technology and deep tech?

Although the term has been elaborated on by tech moguls, it may not be common knowledge to the general public. Broadly speaking, all technologies employ some scientific and practical knowledge to create products that are made to help various people. Although simple ideas can be good ideas, simple technology using basic knowledge cannot create completely novel solutions to people’s problems.

Deep tech, on the other hand, creates new capabilities that can enable completely new use cases to users. It uses groundbreaking engineering and science along with extensive research to provide transformative applications for tech users. One example of deep tech would have been the internet back in the 90s. The internet at some point was only a protocol developed by very technical contributors in the government. The internet and all of its complexity eventually enabled a new world of applications we all enjoy today on our PCs, smartphones, and TVs. Solving scientific or engineering problems gathers knowledge that is hard to reproduce or is not seen in prior technology. The process of engineering rebuilding new machines/systems is what makes deep tech both a challenge and revolutionary. It is in many ways the key to our future.

Technologies can be created by individuals, universities, companies, and so on. If you can get your hands on the right equipment and have the required knowledge then you have creative freedom. Cellphones and computer systems are now used universally and connect people to one another as well as to online information. Niantic (Pokémon go)

This company is best known for its world-altering mobile game Pokémon GO, published by Niantic and Nintendo in 2016. The game was a universal phenomenon, encouraging people to explore outdoor public spaces in order to catch virtual pokémon. Pokémon GO AR allows players to engage in battles, spin pokéstopss, and throw pokéballs to capture nearby pokémon. There are gyms and pokéstops at local landmarks or parks, requiring players to venture outdoors to engage with virtual gameplay. On occasion there can be pokémon to catch just in local neighborhoods, bringing the fantasy to players’ homes.

Augmented Reality leverages lots of deep tech, particularly in the subdisciplines of camera, chipset, and Artificial Intelligence technologies. Advanced camera sensors, lenses, at high resolutions and framerates provide the training data to computer vision algorithms that learn to understand the dynamics of the camera’s field of view. Virtual Reality

Virtual reality (VR) is similar to AR in the sense that it allows us to engage with virtual worlds. A key difference is that VR fully immerses the user with a third-party device to interact with new synthetic worlds. This most commonly includes VR head-mounted displays (HMDs) and hand controls. VR can be an asset to various industries including automotive, retail, real estate, and entertainment.

Marriott is a very well-known chain of hotels that is established in over 100 countries. It added VR in early in 2015, allowing guests to experience VRoom Service from their own hotel rooms.
